Friendship

Updated: Jun 25, 2020

My granddaughter forgot her beloved stuff animals

We were too caught up with goodbyes.

Off they went leaving behind

Dear friends Bunny and Hippo

At 7 years old she’s a member of a family

In their busy-ness she is one

And yet she is counted among the group

As a spoke in the wheel of their fun

Problem solving started

It didn’t work out in the end

The decision was for me to keep them safe

Until their reunion

There’s a thread present

Through these hours of negotiation

A thread of respect and caring

I never experienced as a child

The friendship shared by this 7 year old

with her Bunny and Hippo

Are extensions of self-love

Safety, solace, trust and comfort

Friendships are like a fertilizer

That help us build a connection to ourselves

From the inside out, learning to listen,

Trust, share and love

The practice of friendship

Starts at any age

And affords us an opportunity

To feel love in our heart

As we extend it to another

The Perfect Friend by Shannen Wrass

Today I found a friend who knew everything I felt she knew my weakness and the problems I've been dealt. She understood my wonders and listened to my dreams, she listened to how I felt about life and love and knew what it all means. Not once did she interrupt me or tell me I was wrong she understood what I was going through and promised she'd stay long. I reached out to this friend, to show her that I care to pull her close and let her know how much I need her there. I went to hold her hand to pull her a bit nearer and I realized this perfect friend I found was nothing but a mirror.

Participants’ Reflections:

  • It's wonderful to hear about your granddaughter being a spoke in the wheel, how forgetting her stuffed animals was dealt with, with respect for her and all. Not forced, or controlled. You, Shirley are a part of that respect and connection. They felt safe in that interaction and leaving the stuffed animals in your care.

  • Thought of nurturing, the power of listening. The person in the mirror, it's important to listen to myself, what I really need. Stay connected, know what I need. Getting in harmony, requires me to practice every day.

  • This reading really got to me, and then add the velveteen rabbit in. I would wrap them in a blanket and show your granddaughter them wrapped in the blanket of love. I have a lot of friends, I've never had a "friend"

  • I am signing up for another 21-day challenge with the mirror. The first 21-day challenge helped, but didn't quite get me there. It all starts with loving myself.

  • I went on a search for a real anchor to use on water. I made a makeshift one that didn't work, so I ordered one. I realized during meditation you all are my anchor, grounding me in who I am in loving myself.

  • I participated in a summer solstice ritual and see the Yin energy is waning. It feels like the tipping point, exactly where each of us are right now.

  • We’ve been on zoom four months. We are at a tipping point, and we are returning to the balance. This group affirms that.

  • Each of us is going through what the world is going through. It's not easy. We all need the anchors to hold us in place as we flail around at times.
