The Power of Intention

There is a legendary Cherokee story about Two Wolves. The complete tale is here. The gist of the story is this: Every human in this world has two wolves within. One wolf represents hate and one wolf represents love. Which wolf do you feed?
Today I want to talk about intention. Every thought, every action, every movement we make is powered by intention. When we are babies, our intentions are awkward and clumsy as we learn how to think, move, react and feel. Our neurons are implementing our thoughts and as we grow, we fine tune our thoughts so they are smoother and faster. Our neurons react or implement our intentions. The question becomes what wolf feeds your inner thoughts?
The world as we have known it is breaking down, appearing to be losing its battle between love and hate. So much strife, struggle, meanness, greed, corruption, the list goes on and on. And yet, there is incredible beauty, kindness, miracles, healing, all powered by people using their good intention. We just do not hear about this incredibleness because the squeaky wheel is the struggle and strife. Which wolf do you feed?
The power of intention is indeed a power, a Universal Law that guides our lives. The question is, is the intention fueled by your heart or your mind? Dr. Wayne Dyer has expounded about the Power of Intention in his book, The Power of Intention, and is worth the read. But more importantly, with intention you can listen to your heart. It takes courage to listen beyond self judgment and negative thinking as we feel the immediate reactions to challenges.
I often talk about being broken open by the tragedies in my life. My heart was literally broken open by tragedy after tragedy, and it was then I was given the opportunity to feel/hear/see my inner truth. Until then, I was shuffling along in the collective unconscious achieving, acquiring and reacting.
Challenges that are arising at this time are opportunities to break us open, find our inner truth and listen within to the wisdom of our souls. It takes awareness and intention to find the courage to seek the wisdom because this wisdom guides us, supports us and nurtures us in our journeys. Sounds like an impossible task.
You are worth having intentions for powering good in your life. Practice kindness to yourself and others. Practice silence and listen within. Seek support from those you trust and allow goodness to flow from your heart. It is worth your efforts.
What are you growing
in the garden of your mind –
what do you water, nourish, feed?
Do you plant seeds of forgiveness,
of love, or do you fertilize weeds of anger,
resentment, fear?
What are you growing
in the garden of your heart?
Do you allow sunshine to reach dark pain
in the corners of your heart –
Do you allow tears to wash it clean
and nourish it –
Or do you put up fences
to keep out the feelings?
Get on your knees
grow your own food
decide what it is you want in your soil.
Know what you are cultivating
what you are growing –
a lot can grow in the garden of your body
if you let it seed
nourish it
allow it
watch it grow.
